Zirconia Toughed Alumina (ZTA)
- Zirconia-hardened aluminum oxide ceramics are used as wear protection for particularly demanding and wear-intensive applications in mining, power plants and in industry, where normal aluminum oxide ceramics reach their limits.
- The aim is always to extend the operating time and minimize costs, which must be taken into account in relation to the respective investment costs!
- Zirconium oxide ceramics and aluminum oxide ceramics are manufactured in a similar way, are available in the same geometries and are processed in the same way (see chapter "Aluminium oxide ceramics")
ZTA (zirconia toughened alumina) offers the following differences compared to aluminum oxide ceramics:
- Higher Hardness
- Higher fracture toughness
- Greater elasticity
- Highest flexural strength and tensile strength
- Excellent wear resistance
- Low thermal conductivity
- Low thermal expansion (similar to cast iron)
- Young's modulus similar to steel
- Very good tribological properties (very well suited for sliding pairs)
